2/7/1997	Bal Thackeray, Shiv Sena supremo, found guilty of contempt of court and sentenced to simple imprisonment of one week and a fine of Rs. 2000 by Nagpur bench of Mumbai HC for his statement that ''a judge had demanded a bribe of Rs. 35 lakhs for favouring a litigant''.
12/1/1931	The Second Round Table conference that began in London ended. Congress was solely represented by Gandhi and Muslim League by Sir Allama Iqbal and Quaid-e-Azam, etc. Two committees were setup to carry out the work of the conference on Federal Structure and Minorities. Gandhi was the member of both committees. He claimed that being the sole representative of the Congress, he represented the whole of India. Quaid-e-Azam replied that Muslims are a separate nation. Sir Shafi demanded that the 14 points of Quaid-e-Azam be incorporated in future constitution.
4/6/1930	Mahatma Gandhi picked up a lump of natural salt for breaking the 'Salt Law'. He was arrested at Dandi. This movement gathered strength and within a month about one lakh people were sent to jail. This violation of Salt Law was the second great step in India's Freedom Movement.

9/24/1994	At least 100 people die after an outbreak of pneumonic plague in the western city of Surat.
1/12/1990	Vimal Kumar and Madhumita Bisht retain National badminton titles.
11/17/1999	India beats New Zealand by seven wickets to win the one-day cricket series in New Delhi. Saurav Ganguly adjudged the 'man of the match' and 'man of the series'.
