2/7/1997Bal Thackeray, Shiv Sena supremo, found guilty of contempt of court and sentenced to simple imprisonment of one week and a fine of Rs. 2000 by Nagpur bench of Mumbai HC for his statement that ''a judge had demanded a bribe of Rs. 35 lakhs for favouring a litigant''.
12/1/1931The Second Round Table conference that began in London ended. Congress was solely represented by Gandhi and Muslim League by Sir Allama Iqbal and Quaid-e-Azam, etc. Two committees were setup to carry out the work of the conference on Federal Structure and Minorities. Gandhi was the member of both committees. He claimed that being the sole representative of the Congress, he represented the whole of India. Quaid-e-Azam replied that Muslims are a separate nation. Sir Shafi demanded that the 14 points of Quaid-e-Azam be incorporated in future constitution.
4/6/1930Mahatma Gandhi picked up a lump of natural salt for breaking the 'Salt Law'. He was arrested at Dandi. This movement gathered strength and within a month about one lakh people were sent to jail. This violation of Salt Law was the second great step in India's Freedom Movement.
