Vidit Gujrati to lead India in FIDE Online Olympiad

Chennai, July 13 (IANS) India's second highest rated chess player, Grandmaster (GM) Vidit Santosh Gujrathi (25), will lead the Indian challenge in the upcoming FIDE Online Chess Olympiad starting July 22.

According to the All India Chess Federation (AICF), the decision was taken by AICF President P.R. Venketrama Raja in consultation with former world champion and the country's highest rated player GM Viswanathan Anand and the selection committee.

While Anand is ranked 15th in the world, while Gujrathi is ranked 23rd. World No. 26 GM Pentala Harikrishna will be the reserve.

Team for Chess Olympiad 2020:

Men: Viswanathan Anand, Vidit Santosh Gujrathi (Captain), Pentala Harikrishna (Reserve), Arvindh Chithambaram (Reserve)

Women: Koneru Hampy, Dronavalli Harika, Bhakti Kulkarni (Reserve), R. Vaishali (Reserve)

Junior Boys: Nihal Sareen, R. Praggnanandha (Reserve)

Junior Girls: Divya Deshmukh, Vantika Agrawal (Reserve)
